UAE welcomes UN Assessment Mission to El Fasher; calls for unhindered aid access, humanitarian truce

The United Arab Emirates has welcomed the arrival of a United Nations assessment mission in El Fasher, Sudan, urging urgent action to alleviate the dire humanitarian situation affecting civilians amid the ongoing conflict. The call came from Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, who emphasized the urgent need for sustained, unobstructed humanitarian access and an immediate humanitarian truce.

Speaking on behalf of the UAE government, Al Hashimy described the UN mission as a crucial step toward restoring humanitarian access for communities that have endured prolonged siege conditions and severe deprivation, particularly in the Darfur region. She stressed that such access must be predictable and continuous, not merely symbolic, and must reach all areas where civilians are in need of life‑saving assistance.

The UAE called on both warring parties in Sudan to immediately allow full, unhindered humanitarian access nationwide, including through all viable routes, and to implement an immediate nationwide humanitarian truce without preconditions. Al Hashimy also commended the United States for its diplomatic leadership and recognized the efforts of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and other humanitarian partners working under extremely dangerous conditions.

In its statement, the UAE noted that it stands ready to scale up humanitarian operations, with its logistics and operational hub capabilities on standby to accelerate the delivery of aid once access is granted. Rapid clearance and safe passage for humanitarian convoys, the government said, is essential to delivering urgent relief to Sudanese families and stabilizing communities under severe pressure.

Working with regional and international partners, including through the Quad grouping, the UAE reiterated its commitment to pressing for sustained, unhindered access and the implementation of a humanitarian truce. It also urged the international community to increase financial support to enable OCHA and its partners to expand life‑saving assistance to meet the scale of suffering across Sudan.

The appeal coincides with growing international concern over the humanitarian crisis in El Fasher, where civilians have faced prolonged sieges, severe shortages of food, medicine and other essentials, and repeated calls from UN agencies for protected corridors to deliver aid.

The UAE’s statement underscores its broader humanitarian engagement in Sudan, part of ongoing efforts to support displaced populations and ease human suffering through coordinated international assistance and diplomatic engagement.
