Ras Al Khaimah issues law regulating autonomous vehicles

Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) has introduced a new law to regulate the operation of autonomous vehicles within the emirate. The legislation aims to provide a clear legal framework for the safe deployment, testing, and use of self-driving vehicles on public roads.
Under the new regulations, companies wishing to test or operate autonomous vehicles must obtain approval from the relevant authorities, ensuring that all vehicles meet strict safety and technical standards. The law also outlines liability and insurance requirements, addressing potential accidents or malfunctions involving autonomous systems.
Officials emphasized that the move is part of Ras Al Khaimah’s broader strategy to embrace innovation and smart transportation solutions. The regulations are expected to attract investment in emerging mobility technologies and support the emirate’s vision of becoming a hub for future mobility.
The law also includes provisions for continuous monitoring, data reporting, and adherence to ethical and cybersecurity standards, ensuring that autonomous vehicle operations align with public safety and technological best practices.
With this initiative, Ras Al Khaimah joins other UAE emirates in preparing for the widespread adoption of autonomous mobility, signaling a significant step toward a safer, more efficient, and technology-driven transportation ecosystem.
