NYE 2026 in Dubai: RTA rolls out major traffic plan as 2.7 million set to travel

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a comprehensive traffic and mobility plan for New Year’s Eve 2026, as the city prepares to welcome an estimated 2.7 million residents and visitors across key celebration zones.
The plan is aimed at ensuring smooth traffic flow, enhancing public safety, and facilitating efficient movement during one of Dubai’s busiest nights of the year. It includes extended public transport services, temporary road closures, traffic diversions, and increased deployment of traffic patrols and smart monitoring systems.
RTA confirmed that Dubai Metro and Tram services will operate for extended hours, with additional train frequency to accommodate high passenger demand, particularly on routes serving Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah, and other major event locations. Public buses and marine transport services will also run on special schedules to provide alternative travel options.
Several roads surrounding popular fireworks and celebration venues are expected to see phased closures from the afternoon onwards. Motorists have been advised to plan journeys in advance, use public transport where possible, and follow official traffic updates released through RTA’s digital platforms and roadside signage.
The authority said thousands of staff members, including traffic engineers, inspectors, and customer service teams, will be deployed across the city to manage congestion, assist commuters, and respond swiftly to incidents. Advanced traffic control systems and surveillance cameras will be used to monitor conditions in real time and adjust signal timings as needed.
RTA coordinated closely with Dubai Police, civil defence, and other government entities to ensure a unified approach to crowd management and emergency response. Authorities stressed that safety remains the top priority during celebrations.
Residents and visitors have been encouraged to arrive early at event areas, avoid peak travel times, and consider park-and-ride facilities. RTA reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a safe, efficient, and enjoyable New Year’s Eve experience for all, as Dubai prepares to ring in 2026 with large-scale celebrations across the emirate.
