I don’t complicate my life, Smriti Mandhana says

Indian women’s cricket star Smriti Mandhana made headlines with a candid statement about her personal philosophy and love for the game, during her first public appearance following the cancellation of her wedding.

Speaking at the Amazon Smbhav Summit in New Delhi on Wednesday, the Indian vice-captain said she keeps life simple and focuses on what truly matters to her — her cricket and preparation. “I have always been a very simple person, not complicating my life by overthinking anything,” Mandhana said, explaining her approach to both sport and life.

She emphasized that she measures herself not by outside opinions but by the hard work she puts in away from the spotlight:

Mandhana also reflected on how cricket gives her focus and motivation. She stated that nothing else in life compares to what it feels like to wear the Indian jersey, which helps her put personal problems aside and remain mentally strong. “I don’t think I love anything more than this sport,” she said, describing her lifelong passion for batting.

The event came shortly after she publicly confirmed that her wedding to music composer Palash Muchhal — initially scheduled for late November — had been called off. Both Mandhana and Muchhal released statements asking for privacy for their families and requesting respect as they move forward.

Mandhana’s remarks highlighted not only her commitment to simplicity and focus but also her resilience in staying anchored to her cricketing goals even during emotionally challenging times.
