‘I didn’t have enough money’: From hardship to Great Arab Minds 2025 honour in Dubai

A story of perseverance and determination took centre stage in Dubai as one of the honourees of the Great Arab Minds 2025 awards reflected on a journey that began with financial hardship and ended in regional recognition.
Speaking after receiving the honour, the awardee recalled facing severe economic challenges early in life, admitting there was a time when pursuing education and professional ambitions seemed almost impossible due to a lack of financial resources. “I didn’t have enough money, but I had belief and persistence,” the honouree said, describing years marked by sacrifice, long hours of study and repeated setbacks.
Despite these obstacles, the individual continued to pursue knowledge and innovation, gradually building a reputation for excellence in their field. Support from mentors, combined with self-discipline and resilience, played a crucial role in transforming hardship into opportunity.
The Great Arab Minds initiative, launched to celebrate exceptional Arab talent across science, medicine, engineering, economics, architecture, literature and the arts, recognises individuals whose work has had a meaningful impact on society. The 2025 edition brought together leading thinkers and innovators from across the Arab world, highlighting stories that inspire younger generations.
Officials said the awardee’s journey reflects the core message of the initiative: that talent, determination and vision can overcome social and economic barriers. By honouring such achievements in Dubai, the programme aims to encourage investment in knowledge, creativity and human capital across the region.
For the recipient, the recognition is both a personal milestone and a reminder of the responsibility to give back. “This honour is not just about success,” the honouree said. “It’s about proving that even the hardest beginnings can lead to meaningful contributions if you refuse to give up.”
