The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has revealed detailed plans and the official route for the new Dubai Metro Blue Line, part of a major expansion of the city’s mass transit network aimed at vastly improving connectivity and supporting Dubai’s long-term urban development goals.

🚆 A New Era for Public Transport in Dubai
The Blue Line is set to become the third metro line in Dubai, joining the existing Red and Green Lines. Stretching over 30 kilometres with 14 stations, its construction marks one of the most ambitious phases of the emirate’s public transport transformation.
📍 Route Overview
The Blue Line connects key urban, residential, academic, and commercial hubs across Dubai and integrates directly with the existing network:
Creek Station (Green Line interchange) — Al Jaddaf
Dubai Festival City
Dubai Creek Harbour
Ras Al Khor Industrial Area
International City 1 (Interchange station)
International City 2 & 3
Dubai Silicon Oasis
Academic City
Centrepoint Station (Red Line interchange)
Mirdif and Al Warqa
This layout effectively builds two interconnected branches — one from the Green Line and one from the Red — converging at International City.
Construction began in mid-2025, shortly after the groundbreaking ceremony officiated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The Blue Line project is scheduled to be completed by September 9, 2029, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro’s original launch.
All 14 stations will be modern and futuristic in design, featuring curved, open-air ovals creating a cohesive visual identity quite distinct from the Red and Green Lines.
One station — the Emaar Properties Station — will stand at 74 metres high, making it one of the tallest metro stations in the world.
Three major interchange points enhance network connectivity:
Creek Station (Green Line)
Centrepoint Station (Red Line)
International City 1
These interchanges will allow passengers to transfer smoothly across lines withoutIntegratioe metro system.
Upon completion, the Blue Line is projected to:
Serve around 200,000 passengers per day by 2030
Accommodate over 56,000 passengers per hour in both directions with frequent service intervals of approximately 1.5 minutes.
This expansion will extend the total metro and tram network from about 101 km to 131 km, adding stations and enhancing overall connectivity.
The Blue Line plays a central role in the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33:
Supports the 20-minute city concept, aiming to ensure that essential urban services are accessible within a short travel time.
Directly connects Dubai International Airport with residential, economic, and educational districts.
Expected to reduce traffic congestion by up to 20% along key corridors.
Encourages transit-oriented development, potentially boosting property values around stations.
Once operational in 2029, the Dubai Metro Blue Line will not only enhance mobility across the emirate but also cement Dubai’s reputation as a leader in innovative and sustainable urban transport. Residents and visitors alike will benefit from shorter travel times, seamless integration with existing lines, and expanded access to major hubs across the city.
